Mull, vice provost for global affairs at the University of Virginia and practitioner senior fellow at the Miller Center.


Bio:

Ambassador Stephen D. Mull, a Miller Center practitioner senior fellow, is vice provost for global affairs at the University of Virginia. Ambassador Mull has served in a broad range of U.S. national security positions, most recently as Acting Under Secretary for Political Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, working as the day-to-day manager of overall regional and bilateral policy issues, and overseeing the bureaus for Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, the Near East, South and Central Asia, the Western Hemisphere, and International Organizations. He was lead coordinator for Iran Nuclear Implementation from August 2015 until August 2017 and was the U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Lithuania. He is a graduate of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

Xu Xueyuan has been minister at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States of America since 2018. She is responsible for subnational affairs, congressional affairs, and overseas Chinese relations. She was deputy director-general at the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing from 2015 to 2018. She has previously served as a counselor for political affairs at the Embassy in Washington, DC, from 2011 to 2015. From 1996 to 1998 and again from 2001 to 2010, she worked in the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was also posted to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago from 1998 to 2001. Xu is from Zhejiang province and graduated from Fudan University.
