A weeklong trip by Ambassador Steve Mull and a UVA delegation to India from September 12-17 brings into focus the long and deep relationship the University of Virginia has enjoyed with the world’s second-most populous nation and look to take it to a higher level.
It will include meeting more than a score of Indian institutions of higher learning, sessions with industry and government leaders, and engagements with the growing UVA alumni communities in Mumbai and New Delhi.
“India has long been one of UVA’s biggest sources of international students and scholars, and the country’s extraordinary dynamism and convergence of interests with UVA’s strengths signify even greater untapped potential, ” Mull says. “We have huge room to grow not only in recruiting talented undergraduate and graduate students, but in expanding research partnerships and establishing education abroad opportunity, including internships, for UVA students.”
He also added that both India and the U.S. share growing expertise and innovation in conquering a wide array of challenges from climate change and clean energy to biomedical research, fields in which UVA excels. In addition, he noted that there is a large and growing community of UVA alumni who are eager to remain engaged with their alma mater, and who can be key allies and enablers in strengthening UVA’s bonds with India.
