For Our International Student Community

UVA Rotunda in Summer

As we get ready for the fall semester, International Students and Scholars Program has been keeping up to date with the rules and regulations and want to share it with our community.

Here are the key highlights from this month.

SEVP July 6 policy rescinded

The SEVP policy directive issued by the U.S. government on July 6, the FAQs outlined on July 7, and the implementation of the policy regarding international student status and online study was rescinded on July 14, 2020 as a result of the suit brought by Harvard and MIT and in the wake of a related lawsuit filed by the state of Virginia (with UVA’s support) and 17 other U.S. states and the District of Columbia on July 13.

Instead, the U.S. government will return to the status quo of the March 9 policy directive and March 13 addendum. This decision means that international students can take on-line courses and remain in F-1 status, both within and outside the United States, without concern regarding in-person course requirements.

International Student Town Halls

UVA leaders and ISO are hosting multiple town halls to address international students' concerns and questions. You can see the video from the previous two townhalls and read the transcripts.
