Justin O’Jack has served as chief representative of the University of Virginia in China since 2013 and is the inaugural director of the UVA China Office. Based in Shanghai, Justin has worked in the field of U.S. higher education in China since 2003. Prior to joining UVA, he served as director for Greater China at Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), overseeing operations at six study centers for American university students in Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai and Taipei, and concurrently served as chief representative of the organization’s Shanghai Representative Office for seven years. Prior to that he directed Long Island University’s China Study Center at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou for three years. Justin received a B.A. degree in Asian history from University of California, Santa Cruz in 1993, and an M.A. degree in religious studies from University of California, Santa Barbara in 2002, where he completed Ph.D. coursework in Chinese religions.
